ABOUT
US
YESTERDAY - TODAY - TOMORROW
Since
1986 we have received many phone calls and letters requesting information
about Voices for the Unborn. The following information will give
you an idea how we started, what we do today, and where we plan
to be in the future.
YESTERDAY - In August 1987 the first half-hour pro-life show
was broadcast to the Delaware Valley. It aired for five years into
a three State area. In August 1988 we printed a pro-life newspaper
that was circulated in the Philadelphia area. The Newspaper carried
local as well as National pro-life information.
TODAY - We broadcast a half hour Pro-Life television show
through a network of cable stations that reaches approx. 8,000,000
in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. We have completed a Pro-Life
directory that contains the names, address, and phone numbers of
about 6,000 Pro-Life organizations. Our newspaper is distributed
to 40 states and 11 foreign countries. Our newspaper covers local,
national, and international news.
TOMORROW - We hope to expand our television show across the
country into all 50 States by introducing a system where any Pro-Life
organization would be able to have their own show in their area
for less than $400 a week. For more information on how you can be
a part of this exciting project, call us or click our web site button
OWN TV SHOW. In the near future, we will begin to lay out plans
for a national convention where we will invite those in the Pro-Life
movement.
HOW
WE GOT HERE AND WHERE WE ARE GOING
Joe Mortimer
YESTERDAY
In July of 1987 while attending Mass at St. Christopher's Parish
in Somerton, PA., I listened to Fr. Roland Slobogin give a homily
about abortion. This was the first time I really understood the
truth about the horror of abortion. I had to ask myself why it took
almost fourteen years, Roe v. Wade being made law in 1973, for me
to learn about abortion. Upon leaving the church I approached Fr.
Slobogin and asked him if he would broadcast this message about
abortion over his own half hour radio program. We talked in depth
about how the media does not cover the abortion issue. In September
1987 we started the first pro-life radio show in the Delaware Valley.
Three months later we produced our second half hour radio show.
These shows ran for over five years.
The following year we produced our first newspaper. This paper was
intended to be a local newspaper covering updates on the abortion
issue. During our first year of operation it was suggested that
we try to put a billboard on I-95 in Philadelphia. Even though many
thought that this would be impossible, we put a 20' by - 60' billboard
up on I-95. It was our belief then and it is our belief today that
we must educate the general public about all the abortion issues.
Even today if you ask anyone not involved in the pro-life movement
anything about abortion, partial birth abortion, or what the law
is governing abortion, you will find that 95% have no idea what
the truth is about abortion.
We had received hundreds of phone calls and letters from our radio
shows and newspapers. In almost every case the callers rarely if
ever knew anything about the laws governing abortion. From Day One
we concluded that if we are ever going to win the war against abortion
we must get the pro-life message out to as many people as possible.
We knew that national television and large city newspapers did not
and still do not carry the truth about the abortion issue. We decided
that our main thrust would be to develop as much pro-life media
as possible.
The people we interviewed on radio as well as the people we wrote
about in our newspaper covered a wide variety of pro-life work.
This is what prompted the letters and phone calls to our office.
Much of the pro-life media ten years ago was directed to those who-were
already convinced that abortion was wrong. The intent was to keep
them informed about the pro-life movements activities. We felt that
we should bring the message not only to the pro-life community but
also to those who had no way learning about the movement. This is
why our first radio show was broadcast on a country and western
music station. That is why the first newspapers were delivered into
many homes in the Philadelphia area. A billboard on I-95 was viewed
by over 100,000 people each day driving to and from work. It carried
a simple message that said "Abortion Stops A Beating Heart"
with a picture of a baby and a heart monitor.
TODAY
Today our paper is mailed to 40 states and 18 foreign countries.
We have received recent letters from Africa requesting copies of
the paper so that the information carried might be reprinted and
distributed. We have also received the same request from India.
Recently Lord David Alton from the House of Lords in England appeared
on our television show because of what he read in our newspaper.
We have also received many phone calls about the information we
carry in our paper. Many of these calls are from people who obtained
a copy of our newspaper either in their churches or from friends.
The calls we receive are often from women who decided to cancel
their abortions once they read the truth about abortion. Many suffer
from post abortion syndrome and need someone to talk to them. Our
television show by the same name, Voices For The Unborn, is broadcast
into four states and over 52 cable networks as well as direct-dial
television. It is estimated that we could reach eight million people
with our television show. Our television shows have been aired in
Moscow, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, New York, Tennessee, Louisiana, and
a host of other states.
We now have more than 500 shows on tape because our program has
aired once a week for over ten years on cable television in Philadelphia,
PA. This is not a public-access program but a paid-for time slot.
Many have asked us what is the most frequent question we receive
from the viewing audience. I have to say that after talking to the
callers about their questions, most of them say "how can I
help"? Their offer of help is not monetary. Instead, many offer
to donate their free time to the pro-life cause. Just think of what
could happen if we could put this show across the nation!
All of our shows are built around one theme, Respect Life. Many
of the guests we have had on our show come from all walks of life
in the pro-life movement. As mentioned, Lord David Alton from the
House of Lords in England; also Mercedes Wilson, the U.N. representative
from Guatemala; the national director of the Ancient Order of the
Hibernians, Cannon Green from Canada; Fr. Frank Pavone, the international
director of Priests for Life; chastity lecturer Molly Kelly; Joe
Pirolli, president of the Pro-Life Union of Southeastern Pennsylvania;
and many more too numerous to list.
If you would like to be a guest on our show, please drop us a line
or call so that we can schedule a date and time for a television
shoot.
TOMORROW
In the near future we will send information to many Pro-Life organizations
asking them to consider having their own television show in their
area. To produce a weekly pro-life show can be very expensive. It
could cost from $3000 to $4000. But suppose a half-hour show could
be produced and be ready to air for less than $150? This will be
our target in 2002.
We all know that the major media in the United States have failed
to bring the truth about abortion to the American people. We feel
that it is time to create our own national media by asking pro-life
groups to work with us to accomplish this task. Here is how it can
be done.
Voices For The Unborn has been producing pro-life television shows
since 1989. We have a television studio where we can produce shows
that will meet the quality requirements of almost all television
networks. The first step is to produce a 2 minute intro, that is,
the first 120 seconds of a half hour tape, where you will introduce
your organization. You would name your - organization, tell how
to contact your organization, and what type of prolife work you
are involved with. The next 26 minutes would be the standard Voices
For The Unborn show which is produced and aired each week. The last
2 minutes would once again introduce your organization. You now
have your own television show that can be aired in your area.
Just think, we could reach hundreds of millions of people and for
the first time we could bring the pro-life message to the American
people. Do you want to be part of this adventure?
If you are interested or have any questions about this project,
please call so we can go over this project in detail.
